During the next decade, the baby boomers will be on the leave. But baby boomers did not have many children to replace them. So, the demographic landscapes at local level will be turned upside down. Monitoring of this was never so necessary.
Indeed, marketing prospects for your products heavily depend on the demographic development of your target group. Where are those locations in which the number of people in the age groups you’re focussing will increase most? You are in need of a projection tool linking demographic projections at local level (down to county level) with your market prospects.
Example : for the Metropolitan Area New York, GeoLabour projections show that the student age group 20 to 24 years is projected to grow by 15% from 2002 to 2012. If your product’s turnover concentrates on that group, then sheer demographic changes give you a 15% increase. But in the county Aroostook (ME), it reduces them by a quarter during the same 10-year period. So rather go to New York.
How do your current locations perform compared to New York? Which are the best performing locations for your product – given the projected increase of customers in the various locations?
Demographic Audit & Location Rating gives you an easy access to rating of over 3.000 counties and more than 300 Metropolitan Areas on the basis of the demographic prospects in those regions, for any gender and age group that you might choose. Maybe you prefer to specify the age profile of your customers, and see where it leads you. Introducing an age distribution only takes seconds (see below).
Auditing and rating your locations
Click AUDIT: it shows the complete distribution of growth and decline for all counties, for the gender and age group (or for the age profile) and for the period you have specified. It adds a 13-grade rating for any county – 6a for highest growth, 6b for steepest decline. It also tells the ranking, still for the specified gender/age group within your time horizon.
The Audit displays at mouse click the rating for 16 regions at one glance. A region can be a single county or a Metropolitan Area (MSA).
Tailor your own area
Just tip ‘Activate tailored area’ in whichever row you want: that is where you can build up your tailored area, comprising any number of counties and/or MSAs. The bottom line tells the combined growth and rating.
Choose the high growth areas
(for any gender/age group, or any relevant age distribution, for the specified period). In any row, you can place the high growth areas - just click them in the hitlist (upper left corner): that is were they’re all ranked. Or combine as many of the best or worst as you like in one or more rows.
Where is your turnover going ?
Your target group is “female of age X,” or with the age profile xyz ? Link the demographic projection for that group with a monetary magnitude (for example: turnover, specific investment, a mileage, etc) – and have your key variable projected for the specified period. Do that for up to 16 locations (counties, MSAs or tailored areas) in one sheet: it gives you the rating for each area and the combined growth and rating, i.e. your total portfolio rating. Exchange one location by another, do it again for another target group, tailor more relevant areas, take them from the hitlist, … and you see where you are now, where you will be in 20XX and where you could be.
Now included: Automatic GIS mapping for any specific age group or age mix.
Build your own Atlas.
It all holds in three screens: high level PhD researchers built the final simplicity on an extremely powerful projection engine (20-year span), that handles over 3000 counties in one go. The reference data are updated every year with the latest population figures. The projection engine is built to be reactive to recent changes in mobility per age. Verso: you see (purple and green strips) the components of projected changes: it’s like an uncertainty indicator (see big chart on previous page).
Strategic marketing
Demographic Audit and Location Rating is a user-friendly tool for strategic marketing, providing a full audit of all possible locations across the USA, for the gender and age group, or the age distribution that you specify.
